COLOUR: Skin greyish but often assumes the colour of the soil, as elephants cover themselves with dust and mud.
MOST LIKE: The Indian Elephant, but the two have different distributions. Cannot be confused with any other animal in the Southern African Subregion.
HABITAT: Can be as diverse as the northwestern coastal regions of Namibia and the lush woodland of the southern Cape's high rainfall areas.
