Tamboti Restcamp - Kruger National Park:

Description: Tamboti is a small camp, situated about 4 km from Orpen on the Orpen-Satara road and overlooking the usually dry Timbavati Riverbed and consists of safari tents only. Visitors have to report at the reception office at Orpen

Tamboti Accommodation
  • There are 2-bed and 4-bed tents. The tents are situated on wooden stilts and overlook the Timbavati River. One 2-bed and one 4-bed tent have been adapted for handicapped persons. Communal ablution and kitchen facilities are available. Visitors have to report at the reception office at Orpen.

  • 10 new safari tents are available at Tamboti Tented Camp. Unlike the existing 30 safari tents in the camp, which have communal ablutions and kitchens, these new units are fully equipped and have luxury furnishing, linen and decor. The units overlook the captivating Timbavati Riverbed. Each has one double bed, one single sleeper couch, en suite ablutions (shower), kitchenette, veranda with braai facilities and covered parking.

  • A communal kitchen with sinks and cooking facilities but no cooking utensils, crockery or cutlery.
  • A communal barbecue area.
  • A communal freezer is available.

General Information:

- Climate
Orpen is in a summer rainfall area. Such precipitation is usually convectional and can result in heavy downpours. The summer months (October to April) are hot and sometimes balmy. Winters are warm and mild, although visitors going on night-drives will require warm clothing.

- Day Visitors
Orpen has a designated day visitor area where day visitors and visitors from other camps can barbecue (braai) and picnic. There are also picnic sites at Muzandzeni and Nhlanguleni southwest of the camp, and at Timbavati northeast of the camp, along the river of the same name.
