Survive and Thrive
The statistics say that an audience makes up their minds about the speaker in the first 30 seconds. It’s therefore no wonder that ‘Survive & Thrive’ is such well-received talk. Catherine’s icebreaker galvanises the room as her genuine openness and participative approach lift the energies immediately.
What follows is a riveting, engaging and entertaining account of her walk to success – from bank clerk to GM - to motivational speaker. Survive & Thrive is a story of an ordinary South African making extraordinary progress. It’s about an everyday person choosing to make a life of significance. And it is this very element that many delegates comment on - reporting that when they leave, they do so with a sense of “I can too.” This means the talk works!
Therein lies the power of the talk - it speaks of everyday challenges, and tells of achievable ways to move beyond difficult circumstances and limitation thinking. Using a fun approach, Catherine brings in memory techniques to help delegates remember the 7 principles of Survive & Thrive – ensuring that people leave with more than a good feeling.
Survive & Thrive covers 20 years of business endeavour – from secretarial to sales, from management to motivator. The hour is rich with recounts of how the 7 principles can help you Survive your life challenges to embrace change, embody innovative thinking, increase sales, boost confidence, invite better relationships, juggle busy schedules, develop a shared team visions and encourage smart thinking – all this while still having a life, thriving.
What’s really important about Survive & Thrive is that it helps people reset their expectations. The truth be told, too many people have downgraded their hopes, wishing merely to survive. Catherine challenges people to start actively working towards thriving once again. The message of this talk is that whatever has, is and will happen to you, can be turned to your advantage if you work with it correctly - that includes the Rand, inflation, apartheid, downsizing and crime!
The 7 principles are:
- Your life’s success is up to you. Stop passing the buck and blaming others for what’s not working.
- Everyone must have a vision, for themselves and their work.
- Watch your words, they really count.
- To progress upward you need to acquire skills - and life can be your most powerful skills trainer.
- Don’t let yourself be influenced by negative people who say ‘you can’t’. Vote for yourself.
- Intuition is a powerful success mechanism. Trust it.
- Fun is an energy that helps you go the distance, in style.
Can a motivational talk really make a difference? In particular does Survive & Thrive deliver? A delegate phoned Catherine the day after she and her husband attended the talk. She explained her husband had been depressed due to particularly low sales. However he was so taken with Principle 1 of the talk, that on leaving, he said to himself “If Catherine could do it, so can I”. In the next 6 hours he sold 4 plots of land! Yes, the talk does deliver!!!
