Who needs it, when and why?

EVERY ONE OF US, ALL THE TIME BECAUSE IT IS THE NATURE OF THE BEAST!

Humans have an inherent nature to destroy, call it caveman mentality or stupidity, it happens on a daily basis. In that trail of destruction one of the most serious casualties is the mind. Creativity, lateral thinking, independence of thought and indeed the thought process itself are killed at a very young stage of up bringing. Some psychologists have come up with startling revelations, including the fact that by age six, the average human mind is robbed of its ability to function to its bear minimum.

Most well traveled people are able to liberate themselves by purchasing literature to liberate their minds or mix in circles that can influence them that way; unfortunately, the majority of these are white. This section of the South African society can relate to the exploits of Maslow, Pavlov, Dr. D. Chopra etc. The majority of the black population cannot relate! There are a lot of black executives who are commuted from junior positions to senior positions faster than one can say Affirmative Action and most candidates are not equipped with the tools for a better understanding of the boardroom talk and philosophy. This is not about corporate governance, nor is it about the latest Jack Welsh best seller; it is about self-improvement. In most companies, when senior management or HR hires the services of a motivational speaker, they somehow neglect to consider the audience and the foot soldiers or shop floor. Most employees in senior management can relate to a Mike Lipkin or a Caesar Molebatsi, but what about the shop floor, your tuner and fitter, your delivery guy, your tea lady, receptionist or even the guys in middle management?

Have you put any thoughts on the following:

  • Upbringing and understanding – you need not be a product of your environment
  • The middle class new South Africa – the most militant, vocal and yet neglected section of the SA society – the shop floor
  • The GIGA concept – how you got to be lazy
  • Meeting the challenges of family life and work environment – are the two interdependent and can one really separate them
  • Reprogramming for a new reality – you know something went wrong somewhere in your upbringing, but how do you get rid of the garbage in your head?
  • The HERO image concept

These are the main areas of focus in Bob Mabena’s talks. Getting the middle/working class in South Africa to take their rightful positive place at work, at home and in society form one of them!

With South Africa’s polarization comes racial and social prejudices, choices, perceptions and preferences – black, coloured, Indian and white do not necessarily like the same music and they may not be turned on by the same personalities.
