The Spider

Bible Reading: Proverbs 30: 24 - 28

Text verses:
24.  There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:
28.  The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings’ palaces.

In some Bibles instead of the word Spider we have the word Lizard or Gecko as Bible Scholars are
unsure of the exact meaning of this word.
Proverbs 30:28 (New American Bible)
Lizards—you can catch them with your hands, yet they find their way into king’s palaces.

In the King James Version of the Bible we find the word Spider three times while in
most other Versions it is mentioned only twice.
I am convinced however that spider is the correct translation in our Text verse.

KING DAVID
Listen to the words of David when he was fleeing from King Saul.
Psalm 57:2
I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me.

Notice the words: God that performeth all things for me.
The Jewish Aramaic Translation of the Psalms - The Targum - has a note on this verse of the Psalm.
David was in the Cave of Adullam.
He had fled from King Saul, his remorseless foe and had found shelter in the clefts of the rocks.
He cries out in Prayer in his Psalm:
Be merciful unto me, O God!

King Saul with armed men was close on his heels seeking his life!
Would they find him?
The Targum tells us that a spider spun its web over the door part of the cave where David was concealed.
Seeing the Spider-web King Saul did not enter the cave because he thought that David could not have
entered it without breaking the spider's web.
Thus David was saved.

Only a Spider's web although it could catch a thousand flies
- the stoutest web -
the strongest web spun across your path could be easily broken and brushed aside.
It cannot stop you!
But the God that performeth all things - The God of who the Bible says:

Malachi 3:6
For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

Used a Spider's web to protect David from harm.
Likewise God can use a spider's web to stop the enemy from destroying you!

Have you ever noticed that whenever you touch or break the Web of a Spider
The Spider will always run upwards.
Never in circles!
Never downwards!
Always upwards!
Friends, when in need always Look Up!

BECAUSE the Bible Promises are ever true:
Isaiah 54:17
 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper;
and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

Friend, in times of trouble always remember:
1 John 4:4
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them:
because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Romans 8:38-39
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities,
nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth,
nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God,
which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

THE DEVIL'S SPIDER'S WEB
But just as the Web of a Spider can be used by God to protect His children so the devil uses
his spider's web to entangle us in his web of deceit and sin.

Spiders amaze me.
No matter how thoroughly you clean your home and rid it of spider-webs.
Often a few days after we think it has been cleaned thoroughly,
we look, and lo, a new cobweb has appeared in the corner of the room

In a way, life is like that.
We ask forgiveness so that we may present a clean life to God.
Then, to our dismay, out pops an ugly thought, an ugly attitude,
and we need to pray again for God’s forgiveness and help.

Friend, the devil may have spun his:
Spider-web of Sickness
Spider-web of problems
Spider-web of financial worries
Spider-web of Depression

A certain man had a favorite prayer he liked to repeat in prayer meeting.
He would pray, "Dear God, brush away the cobwebs from my life that I may see thee more clearly."
Once, after he had said this for the umpteenth time, a woman rose and prayed,
"Yes, Lord, do grant our brother’s request, and this time please kill the spider."

Even the Spider-web of sin can be removed from your life - Listen to the Word of the Lord:
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins,
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Our God can not only remove the cobwebs from our lives but He can also destroy the spider of satan.

Remember:
Luke 1:37
For with God nothing shall be impossible.

We serve a miracle working God!
All that is required is prayer!

Jeremiah 33:3
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things,
which thou knowest not.

Psalm 50:15
And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

Will you call on the Lord now, to free you from the spider-web that satan has entangled you with?

IN CLOSING
Remember our Text verses in Proverbs 30:
24.  There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:
28.  The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings’ palaces.

A spider may be little but the Bible says that it is extremely wise - WHY?
The Bible then continues to give us the answer:
It is in king's palaces - It makes it's home in the King's Palace!

Friends, Jesus said:
John 14:1-2
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me.
In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places.
If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?

Jesus has prepared a place for us in the Palace of His Father
and the question that now needs to be asked is simply this:
Will we make our eternal home in His Father's palace?
A spider is extremely wise because it makes its home in the palace of the King!

Friend you may have or are still building for yourself a palace
and surrounding yourself with material things on this earth.
Friend, you need to remember:

Hebrews 9:27
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.

Mark 8:36-37
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

What will it help you in that day, if you have not ensured that you will inherit Eternal life?
Where will you spend eternity?
What will you do if in that day you discover too late that satan has entangled you
in his spider's web and this prevents you from entering the Palace of the King of Kings?
Are you wise - have you ensured that your eternal home will be in the Palace of the King of Kings?

How can we make sure that we will spend eternity in the Palace of the KING OF KINGS?
Jesus gave us the answer two thousand years ago when He said:
John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life:
no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Only by believing in Jesus and accepting his forgiveness for your sins and following Him
can you be sure of your eternal home!

Amen
