Blouberg Conservation Project

BLOUBERG RAPTOR PROJECT

  • Sub-adult male Crowned Eagle (Status: vulnerable) - rehabilitated and released

Largely as a result of the Vulture Project as well as local people becoming aware of the need to improve their environment through conservation an increase in interest in and concern for the raptors (birds of prey) in the area surfaced that led to the establishment of this aspect of the project. We assist the local people by providing information as to how to live and farm in harmony with these birds that share their environment and the best way to conserve them.

In March 2005, the rehabilitation aspect of the Raptor Project was seconded to the Vulture Study Group. Bloucon continues with the raptor receiving and information aspect of the Project.

  • Lesser Spotted Eagle (Status: common) - rehabilitated and released.

  • Juvenile Barn Owls (Status: common) removed from local farmer's roof - raised and released.
