After receiving preliminary search clearance for your proposed trademark, the next step is to apply for registration of that trademark. This process takes several weeks to complete and along with the previous search may take anything between 9 to 14 weeks.
When your trademark application is accepted, it will be assigned an application number. From this point you are entitled to use your trademark with one of the internationally recognised symbols: TM or ®
Usually a period of 2 to 3 years will pass before you are requested to submit your trademark to the Government Printer for publication in the Government Gazette. (We assist you with this final step as a part of your Trade Mark Application.) If finally, after publication, there are no public objections to your trademark, you will receive a certificate of registration valid for 10 years from date of original application. After the expiry of the 10 years you may renew your trademark for a standard fee.
