1. What is it? .
Diabetes (often called sugar diabetes) is a condition of the body, where sugar is not used correctly to provide energy for living and growing.  You develop diabetes when your body doesn’t produce enough insulin.  Without insulin your body cannot get the energy it needs from your food
2. Do I have it?
Although there may be no obvious symptoms and some people have no symptoms, the following are common:
  • Always thirsty
  • Always tired
  • Frequent urination
  • Unexplained weightloss
  • Itching
  • Changes of vision
  • Slow healing cuts and bruises
  • Numbness in hands and feet
3. Is it serious?
Yes.  Diabetes is a life-long condition.  Without proper management it can lead to heart and kidney disease, blindness and amputation.
4. Is there a cure?
No. But there is effective treatment, and if you know how to take good care of yourself, based on good medical advice, you can lead an active healthy life.
5. Who is at risk?
Anyone, anywhere, at any age can get diabetes.  Being overweight and having a family history of diabetes increase the risk.
