Hannes en Wynand Bloem

Stud Breeding was started in 1972 when some stud ewes and a ram was bought from Mr. Izak Vorster of Middelburg(Cape). Stud 595 was registered in 1982 and Stud 876 in 1987.

Our Breeding Policy throughout the years was based on the following principles:

  1. Adaptability : The region in which we stay is a semi desert area with rainfall average in the order of 350 mm per annum. Our goats must be able to keep in good condition above the minimum that is required for re-production. We market our flock animals for slaughtering purposes straight from the veld.
  2. Meat Production : Throughout the years we have strongly selected for muscularity. Especially on those parts of the body where it really matters: for instance the buttock. Our goats are outstanding in this respect.
  3. Balance : A well-balanced animal ensures mobility. We strive to conform to the standards laid down by the SA Boer Goat Breeder's Association.

Records : The only way in which we could monitor our progress over the years was through careful and precise record keeping. Any prospective CLIENT can be provided with a detailed pedigree as well as performance statistics relating to any of our goats.

Sales : As far as the SA National Sales (held in October) is concerned we have held our own. At the sale of October 1992 the above two studs ended up second and third best on an average for three rams per stud. On top of this our private sales have improved every year since we started. On the SA National Elite sale in October 1995 in Kimberley we have sold the highest priced ram on the sale.(Bloem932, R19 000)

Shows : We are not show hunters but are proud of our achievements since 1990. (See also the show results of Bloem932's offspring on Northern Cape Regional Championships in 1997 and World Championships in 1998 for his new owners)

Fertility: Only ewes capable of producing a lambing percentage above 150% per annum over the first three years of production are kept in the stud. Our stud average at this moment in time is just under 200%. This goes hand in hand with milk production.

Embryos : Available on request. Contact owner directly. For a typical example of our type of donor ewes see bookmark.

For many years we carefully selected and used only the best goats to build up our studs.

Performance at our top shows would have been a good test for our standards
