PIERRE JOURDAN

Cradled by mountains in the scenic Franschhoek valley, Cabrière is deeply rooted in history.

The range of Pierre Jourdan Cap Classique sparkling wines produced on the estate honours the memory of French Huguenot Pierre Jourdan, who was granted the land on December 22, 1694. He named his property Cabrière, after the village near Avignon from which he had fled, and planted the first vines.

Pierre Jourdan's pioneering spirit lives on in proprietor Achim von Arnim who purchased part of the original Cabrière Farm in 1982. His is an enthusiast whose lust for life is expressed in winegrowing. Achim replanted the vineyards of Cabrière exclusively with the classic cultivars Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for the production of a champagne style sparkling wine.

The second Cabrière cellar, the Haute Cabrière Mountain Cellar, is built by Achim in 1994 to commemorate the 300 anniversary of the granting of the farm to Pierre Jourdan and to make space for the production of the first vintage of his Pinot Noir red wine in the style of Burgundy. The gates of the cellar and cellar restaurant are opened to the public on 22 December 1994, the very day of the anniversary by two representatives of the eighth's generation, of Jourdans living in South Africa : Philip and his sister Mary. Cabrière Estate is honoured to count Philip Jourdan's children, the 9th generation, amongst our valued and loyal customers.

Achim says simply "It was as if Cabrière had been waiting for me."
