The Road to Dune
Frank Herbert, Brian Herbert, Kevin J Anderson
Reviewed by Ian Jamieson, 19 October 2005

A compendium of notes, reviews, papers and stories taken directly from Frank Herbert's archives, and stories from Brian Herbert (the son of Frank) and his collaborator on the Preludes to Dune and Legends of Dune, Kevin J Anderson.

Here are some of the original passages from Dune, dropped for various reasons; short stories about Dune, along with various notes and letters on the original publication.

And then there are the four short stories and "Spice Planet", based on various outlines by Frank Herbert, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson.

With all the different notes, prefaces, forewords, and introductions I was more than a little surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. Brian and Kevin have done a masterly job in ensuring that all the interesting items flow nicely together in a intruiging and entertaining way.

The book also shows that when it came to writing about Dune, Frank Herbert was the master.
