To me this book is less of an art book (no matter how well done it may be)
and more of an idealistic representation of all the main characters in
Discworld.
There are gods and kings, witches and wizards, vampires and trolls, and all
the characters who make up the books of Terry Pratchett. DEATH takes a
large part of course, although I don't remember him ever wearing a ring.
I don't think its possible to be objective about these representations. If
you have read several books, somewhere in your mind is a picture of the
character as you believe him, or her, or even it to look like. Saying this,
however, I am quite amazed at the number of portraits that I believe the
artist has got "just right!".
The main ones I would argue about are:
Vimes - too surly and sneaky looking somehow; Albert - just too scruffy. I
can't see DEATH tolerating him.
The comments from Pratchett add a nice touch of both history and humour to
what is a book that can be read and enjoyed over and over.
I'm glad it is in my collection (ouch, sorry) my wife's and my collection.
