And the story becomes darker yet . . ..
Katla and her mother and the rest of the captured women of Eyra are now
prisoners on the ship of the Istrian raiders. They manage to escape after the
ship is wrecked but end up in the harem of Rui Finco and so discover how much
worse off are the women of the South.
Saro Vingo must escape from the dungeons where he has been imprisoned by
his crazed brother Tanto.
Tycho Issian is still driven by his lust for the Rosa Elda but even when he
finally captures her he cannot find release.
Virelai discovers where he actually came from and why he has the powers
that he could not understand.
The North and South battle furiously and many, many people are killed and
lands are destroyed.
The Rosa Elda also finally discovers who and what she is and uses her power
along with that of her brother/husband, Surio and Bete, the cat/beast to
set the world back on its tracks and then they return to the ether.
Finally Katla is healed of her grevious injuries and Saro Vongo realises
that he may finally, after serious endeavour, win her over.
The third book does indeed tie up all the complications unravelled in the
first two but not altogther in ways that might be expected. Do not expect all
of the characters to "live happily ever after", as many of them do not make it
to the end of the trilogy.
But it is well worth reading!
Recommended.
