A thousand years after falling in battle, Skilgannon the Damned is
reincarnated by a desperate leader to save his people. But
Skilgannon's memories are fragmented and his skills are blunted. He is a man
out of time. Once again, evil threatens the Drenai, and it is the
responsibility of Skilgannon and his newfound allies to defend against it.
I have to admit that I am a big David Gemmell fan, but I'm afraid that this
story is more-or-less just an excuse to bring out Skilgannon once more.
Surprisingly, the Drenai land is not much different as it was "a thousand
years ago". Almost all of the previous Drenai characters make an appearance,
including Druss the Legend, Decado and Jianna. There comes a time when it is
necessary to give old characters a rest, and create new ones.
Don't get me wrong, though; the book is still worth reading, especially if
you enjoy David Gemmell. As with all Gemmell books, I found it very
hard to put down.
It could, however, have been a lot better.
