Kethiol was the bright one, who could always be relied on to
find a suitable job of work. Pirojil was the talker, able to negotiate
a far better deal than their new employer had originally planned.
Durine was simply good for killing people.
Three friends, three mercenaries, hired by the Duke to do some simple
guard duty through the bitterly cold winter.
They are assigned to help guard the Lady Mondegreen and her husband and
bring them both safely to LaMut. When they arrive at his Lordship's
castle they discover he is too old and ill to travel, and they must,
perforce, deliver the Lady safely. A simple enough job and they succeed
admirably, but then things start to go downhill from there and when the
lady and her lover are discovered murdered in the same bed, the three
must use their talents to discover the killer and stop a civil war.
The authors have an easy way with words and although there is nothing
very remarkable about the story it is an enjoyable read.
