Port Alfred.

EASTERN CAPE. SOUTH AFRICA.

fondly known as the 'HEART OF THE SUNSHINE COAST' a town that straddles the glorious KOWIE RIVER, which is a tidal river navigable for 29 kilometres.
Port Alfred now forms the amalgamated district called NDLAMBE.

The most sought after holiday destination on the ROUTE 72,
Situated midway between East London & Port Elizabeth, exactly 150 kilometres either way.
Known for the wonderful temperate climate, pristine endless beaches, friendly 'village' atmosphere & magnificent KOWIE river, which flows out to the warm  Indian ocean. Where ever you go, you will always think of us as .............'A TINY PARADISE in the HEART OF THE SUNSHINE COAST.'

Golfing.
18 hole golf course, the Royal Port Alfred Golf course. With a view of the sea you will never forget. The Royal Port Alfred was laid out between 1907 and 1915 and was given royal status from King George V. Expect an 18-hole, 72-par course.

Marine history.
Nestled between the hills of the 'Lower Albany', Port Alfred  which underwent 8 name changes in its history, was famous in the 1820's for the changing of the river mouth  by Captain Cock.

Yachting, water sports, diving, surfing & fishing.

The two most popular surf breaks are on either side the Kowie River Mouth and are known as East and West Beach.. East Beach is the most popular of the two, and has a good, gnarly  right break that works best in moderate swells from the south, with SW or NW breezes. The East  Beach break often joins up with a left breaking peak to make up some good close-out aerial stuff.  West beach has a beach peak that starts fairly close to the mouth with good left and right breaks.
Diving can be done privately, or through KERYNS DIVE SCHOOL. You will never see such soft coral or lunar landings again in your life! Numerous ship wrecks to explore.
The small boat harbour, alongside the Halyards Hotel, adjacent to the Royal Alfred marina, hosts numerous boats of all sizes.

The famous bridge over the Kowie. The Nico Malan Bridge.

This outstanding holiday spot, flanked by splendid beaches, straddles the banks of
the Kowie River. The beaches extend for miles, making them ideal for walking.
Popular among water sport enthusiasts for swimming, surfing, boating,
water-skiing and scuba diving, the town has a picturesque boat harbour, residential
marina and first class angling. There are stunning sea views from The Royal Port
Alfred Golf Course, and the surrounding countryside has many hiking trails, and
historical and scenic places to visit.
