Dear Friends
It seems we were barely preparing for
Easter, and it has come and gone. I have been reading a book by Rajinder
Singh entitled, “Empowering Your Soul Through Meditation.” He indicates how
much time we allocate and spend on various acitivities such as eating,
travelling, sleeping, working etc., and we leave out time for the soul.
Each of us is a soul, living out his or her
experience in a human body with a human mind. One day these human
“accessories” will fall away, but the soul is that ongoing, eternal part of
us; that part of us that is essentially one with God. And it is through the
soul (consciousness) that we connect with God.
Singh, in the book says:
“Within us are riches greater than any we
can ever accumulate on earth. We have inside us a source of knowledge from
which all other knowledge flows. A love far greater and fulfilling than
any we can know in the outer world is waiting to embrace us with open arms
within. At our core is a strength and power that can enable us to overcome
any fear. Underlying our separateness as individuals is a connectedness
and oneness to all life. Awaiting us inside is a bliss and joy so
fulfilling that we need no other intoxicants to make us happy. All these
gifts lie within us in the empowered soul.”
Well, after reading this, who would not
want to be experiencing all of this??? So why are we, in most cases, not
participating in this bliss and joy and oneness? What is it that is
causing our separation (apparent separation) from It? How many times do we
seek to empower ourselves through knowledge of the world; or achieving
wealth; or validate ourselves through another’s opinion of what we could
and should be? We look for love (outside of ourselves) in a needy way. We
spend a lot of time and money and effort trying to be happy and making
others happy. We leave God out of the picture.
How do we change all this? We can begin
by claiming our inheritance; but this does not just happen – what we have
to do is choose a new path, a new way of being. And when we take this
decision it means we can no longer live the life we did before – it means
we take a new route and to do so means giving up the old one. We cannot
stay in same groove of thinking, doing and being, and expect different
results. To experience the riches of the kingdom that are ours by divine
inheritance, we need to think, do and be, according to Truth.
I come back to Joel Goldsmith’s words,
where he says: “God’s work is complete; our work is to rest in that
completeness.”
Now it may seem contradictory to speak of
work and rest together in this way. Rest means to BE – Be Still. And our
work is to remember and take time to be still. Be still and know! In fact
our most important task / work in life, is to keep coming back to the
kingdom of God within – within our own consciousness. It is as simple and as
difficult as that.
Each of us at different times may be faced
with challenges in the form of lack, limitation, ill-health, or discord in
relationships. At such times we are tempted to try and do something about
whatever it is; we try to fix the problem. Remember …. Our work is to rest
in the completeness of God’s work. So all we need do is stop and rest.
Relax, be still and at peace in the assurance of the Divine Presence within
… that doeth the works … (through us); this Presence at the very centre of
our being; this Presence that is with us always. The only effort required
from us, is to make the time to be still.
In rediscovering the power of our souls, we
rediscover God.
