During the 1997 Junior World track champs held at Bellville's Velodrome , Katie Krall representing the USA in the junior women’s points race had a nasty crash/fall and has not ridden competitively since. We have been contacted by her father who wants to know whether anyone has a videotape of the meeting and who also might have any footage on his daughter’s mishap. We really had to muster the "troops" on this day to marshal the course and our thanks go to all members who gave up there racing and spare time to help the club put on the race.Special mention must be made of Tony Roberts who swept the road , marshaled and then officiated on the line . Peter Wheeler would have been the third finisher in the senior race but was disqualified by the referee for drafting behind a 4x4 after being dropped.
The first Super league fun ride was held in Worcester on 11/09/99 and riders experience wet , windy and freezing conditions , the league riders(moffies - no disrespect to our gay community) baled out by taking a shortcut back to Worcester - God forbid if the "old timers" like Robbie McKintosh , Alan v Heerden here about it , I bet they would have bitten the ballbearing and raced on.
Western Province Road Champs - 12/09/99
One hundred and twenty two riders went to the line to contest the last champs of the century in the various categories . So what was the difference between the champs held in 1899 and 1999 apart from the bike weighing about 13 kilo’s , a fixed rear wheel , no toestraps , a brake that was a pad which was vertically pushed down on to the front wheel?
No City members contested the senior champs in 1999. Strange but true.
Congratulations to Jan Wiehan winning silver in the 35-39 , gold to Gerard Genis in the 45-49 and to John Moss and Tony Roberts for silver and bronze respectively in the 50+ age categories. For all of us who didn’t win a medal , there’s always a next time , lets train smarter .

The athletics section was revived for a day for the first time since the 1930’s when Graham Ward and Niel Buckland tackled the Gun Run half marathon .
