Races for July

1st July Knysna Fun ride. At the same time , Angus Robinson will be taking the youngsters who attend the Saturday skills classes up to Knysna for a training camp , Oscar Ferreira has kindly sponsored City club jersys for them.

8th July Rhadsport - Town Hall , Jan van Riebeeck Road , Paarl. Rhadsport will be using a 20km circuit .

On the same weekend the u16’s take part in the Eric van Enter in PE . The Schools Association are taking about 32 riders and have had to purchase jerseys for them which has depleted their funds , they will be selling golf shirts @ R50 in order to replenish their coffers.

15 July Paarl Cycling Club - Market street , Paarl . This is a relatively flat route which starts on the bridge over the Berg River and goes thru Paarl out to Klapmuts , left to Simondium and then back to Paarl via the outskirts of Franschhoek and Victor Verster Prison.

22 July UCT - Triangle bottom of Red Hill. ( big climb)

29 July Peninsula - Black Marlin Restaurant Millers Point (another big climb)

WPCA AGM - Piet Odendaal of Bellville Cycling and the Officials Association was awarded WP colours for service. A selection and a disciplinary committee were also elected , apart from the elections the only other matter of interest was a discussion regarding the venue for the WP t/t and road champs. Those of us with the climbing abilities of a bag of cement will be glad to hear that Club Mykonos have approached the WP Cycling Association to host the champs there. The big issue is , do we hold the t/t & road champs on the same weekend or do we only hold the t/t at Club Mykonos and the road elsewhere the next weekend? Remember we/you do have a say in the venue and course , let us know , it will be discussed at the next WP meeting.

At the launch of Cycle Lab/Le Peleton , City’s Entertainment Committee led by Dominico Cutino came to the conclusion , that after two beer shandys most cyclists become incoherent and cross-eyed , it is believed that Peter Wheeler was found in the Waterfront’s carpark looking for the Ryder/BOE combi which was stolen at the SA track champs in April.

Domineco Cutino and Oscar Ferreira are off to the T’d France later in the month , wine makers be warned , lock up your wine cellars .

The next club meeting will be held on the 3 July @ 20hr00 sharp
