WP Road Champs - Date change.
Take note that the champs will take place on the 11th September starting at 12 noon for senior elite and juniors. The route for Seniors/Juniors will be the Adderley , van Schoorsdrift and Vissershok circuit (V/hok will be climbed three times for seniors and twice for juniors) all other categories will do Adderley and the Fesantekraal circuit returning to the finish via Adderley and not V/hok. The start venue will be the parking lot in New street , Durbanville. There still time to start doing intervals into the S/Easter .Taking the date change into account Yorkshires race will take place on the 28th August , if you are intending to go to Paarl on that day phone first , Yorkshire were not at the Province meeting when the above topics were decided.
The Time Trial Champs take place on the 18th September , those intending to take part can tune their bikes bodies etc at the CLUBS restricted gear T/T to be held on 12th September(9.00am) at the 4 Way Stop at Fesantekraal. For the newcomers this is how it works , you may use a 53/19 or 42/15 gearing , your shifters will be taped up with masking tape , and off you go -16kms- results will be determined by sealed handicap, so that means anyone of us mere mortals can win .There are trophies to be won for time elapsed as well. This is a very good exercise to determine your lactate threshold. A wind down ride for about an hour will commence afterwards . SEE ALL OF YOU THERE.
Increase in entry fees.
With the price of petrol increasing over the last few months the officials have upped their fees from R200 to R300 for the day , this increase will be absorbed by increasing entry fees for seniors from R20 to R25, Vets and women from R17 to R20 . The age groups have also been increased.
Knysna Funride
Held in almost perfect conditions Lotus/IBM filled the first six places in the 104k ride. In the 50k ride club members Oscar Ferreira , Dominico Cutino and Graham Ward caught the breakaway bunch in the last 50metres before the line , but they think that two riders got away right from the start .Not content to do his first competitive ride since breaking his collar bone Mike Maartens jumped off the bridge at Gouritzmond on the way up to Knysna and on the way back home , that one way to get the heart rate up and the digestive system going , he promptly came down with the flu the next day.
If you really want to catch a "action man " check out the Gladiators on TV every Friday , member Robbie Rodriques won through his first round and is into the semis.
Jamie Ball
Steve Down arranged for Jamie to ride for a club in France and by all accounts is doing very well , he needs to win two more races for his licence to be upgraded.

Congratulations to Gerard Genis , John Moss and Tony Roberts for being selected to compete in their age categories in the Vets Worlds (Road) to be held in St Johan Austria later this year. The only other WP rider to get selected was Francois du Toit.
Results
10 July Fesantekraal Circuit.
The crosswind blew most of the bunches apart with James Perry winning the seniors with not even the second placed Mools in sight , Garth Thomas winning the sprint in the juniors . In the Vets half the starters gave up after the first round , in the end Citys Gerard Genis came in second to Johan du Plessis.
17 July Klapmuts Hotel
We did not have to tackle Helshoogte as the traffic police allocated to the race had to do duty in Stellenbosch for the rugby match. We had to contend with a rather undulating course , with a bit of a downpour in the first few ks and then with a bitingly cold headwind for the last 10. James Perry again winning with no-one in sight and Gerard Genis winning the Vets.

Rumour has it that Robbie Dale taken up playing rugby. What next? Hughie a ref and Mrs. Dale on the WPRFU committee.
Do you know that should you be selected to represent your country in cycling you will have to pay your own way? Only the Senior Elite are subsidised . The Juniors and Vets selected to compete as mentioned on the previous page ,have not received a cent from SACF . Can you believe that of R195 185 received from NOCSA ,R177 185 has gone to one person - JP van Zyl . If you have heard about the 4000 bikes donated from Osaka , they are street bikes (something like a delivery bike) to promote cycling as a mode of transport !!! What next ? Must we wait another decade or two before they start donating motor cars and racing bicycles. This was all proudly announced in a circular to affiliated bodies of the SACF.
