SACF license
The SACF are going to introduce the following type of license for all registered riders, so depending what you want to take on in the coming year will dictate what type of license you would need to take out.
Full license (A grade)
You would need to supply two mugshots of yourself to go with the application and this license will enable you to ride in all classes of races including National Classics , National Champs etc etc. Should you wish to ride overseas you would still need to apply for an International license.
Cyclo Tourism (B grade)
This type is aimed at riders only wanting to compete at club level in their home province , holders are not allowed to take part in inter-provincials or provincial champs. You may upgrade to a full license , and you would only have to pay the difference.
Events license (C grade)
This one is issued at races for riders wishing to compete on a once-off basis , a charge of R20 plus race fees is applicable so it is best to take out a cyclo-tourism license as it only costs R50 for the season.
Try and get your license forms to us before the end of January as we have elections coming up at the of the season (June) and we will need to elect a new Western Province chairman as Hein Kroff is on the executive committee of the SACF and is unable fill both positions , for every ten riders licensed by the club we get one vote. Should you not have an application form and you want to license for Theis year , give any one of the exco members a ring.
Club Champs 17 December 2000
Venue : New Street Durbanville (Commonage)
17 members went to the line to contest the 2000 club road champs .
Jeremy Maartens , the current Australian u23 road champ took the honours in the Connock Bowl and Nimo Floating trophies and with it the prize money of R150 , veteran George Langley took 2nd place (R100) and Oscar Cloete 3rd (R50)
Boxing Day 26 December
The 103rd edition of this popular event was held in front of a large crowd who were treated to some scintillating racing in all categories . The track had been closed down a week prior to the event in order to flatten out some of those "bumps". On a hot breezy day , James Perry came , had a look and didnt conquer. Uncle Harry ,who managed a 2nd place in the 25 miler 72 years ago and our very active Life President , made the trek out to Paarl , it was good to see other members of the club supporting track cycling , it was a pity that we could not put more members on to the podium. A week prior to the event two of our members were involved in a high speed crash at the Bellville velodrome which resulted in a dislocated shoulder for Willie Newman and a trashed front wheel and fork for Graham Ward. On the Day the sprinting was left up to Clive Schell and Oscar Cloete and the long-range efforts to John Moss . Willie had to enjoy the racing from the stands. For full results and pictures of the days racing you can log on to www.laphoto.co.za , PTO for some of the main results:

EP Herald - Port Elizabeth (Sunday 11th February)
The club is going to hire two Kombis and make the trip up to PE , we have space for sixteen members. A R200
deposit will guarantee you a place in the bus. Total cost is R550 per person which will include top-notch accomodation 30seconds from the start on the Port Elizabeth beachfront but excludes meals. We will depart from Cape Town on the Friday morning and leave Port Elizabeth early Sunday afternoon to arrive back in Cape Town by about 20hrs00 that night. Interested??? contact John Simpson or Oscar Ferreira .
At our last meeting of the year Uncle Harry generously donated R100 to club funds , thank-you Uncle Harry .
Jeremy Maartens and Jamie Ball have left the Cape to find fame and fortune in Johannesburg for HSBC and IBM/Lotus respectively , both are trade3 teams which means they have to earn UCI points to get anywhere in the sport and keep their sponsors happy. They (trade 3 teams) are going to have to either go overseas or get there posteriors into gear with SACF and have tours in South Africa with a high enough grading to earn points locally , beating each other in the Putsonderwater Classic will mean nothing even with prize money of R20 000 plus.
