Phew, it just gets better and better.
People join a cycling club to cycle, however some of us, namely John Simpson our current chairman and Gary Marescia of Cycle Lab have been putting the finishing touches to the decision to merge forces, this has resulted in meeting after meeting to iron out a few things that might crop up and on top of that CSC (yes) CSC of the Tour d France fame are going to sponsor the club. To cut a long story short , this club , your club , our club - CITY CYCLING CLUB - to be more accurate will be relaunched as City Cycle Lab on the 6 September. In order not to make Mickey Mouse proud , we , the club exco and staff of Cycle Lab are working feverishly behind the scenes to shake , as we promised in a newsletter a few months back , the cycling fraternity in the Cape awake . All paid up and life members will receive an invite in the post or via e-mail, please RSVP ASAP. Kindly note that the function will be for members only, as much as we would like to invite your other (better) half, due to budget constraints we are only able to entertain you. Dont disappoint yourself , make a note in your diary now.
As a result of the merge and the billion Rand sponsorship etc some other important thing have had to be delayed by a few weeks, dont be discouraged if you havent received a newsletter or jersey or receipt for the cheque you have sent us, you can be sure that we have banked and probably spent your money. We can confirm that we have run out of club jerseys , just in time , so new club members wont be getting the blue/red/white club jersey but will have to , Im afraid , wait for the launch of the new colours(top secret). We have kept records of who has joined and not been given a jersey , but please bear with us until the 7th September when all club accessories will be available to you.
WP road champs 25 August 2001
Please note that the start venue and the course over which the champs will be contested differs from that which is reflected on the WPCA calendar. The start is at the Boland Agricultural High School on the voor-Paardeberg road just off the R44 outside Paarl. Racing starts at 10.00am for the under 16s , 10.10am for the u14s and so on for the u12s and u10s . Senior Vets (over 40s) start at 11.00am , senior & junior women at 11.05am , Elite /u23 start at 12.30pm , juniors at 12.40pm and junior Vets (under 40s) at 13.00pm. Entry fees for the Champs are R50. We know that this is a very demanding course even without the wind , but we want our cyclists to end up racing in Paris not Parys and our youngsters wont get there by riding around Fesantekraal every weekend.
SA Champs
Results from Kimberley are coming through in drips and drabs but we can confirm that John Eloff is the 2001 road champ in the 55 years+ category , John Moss won the bronze and John Simpson , our chairman finished in sixth place. John Eloff also won bronze in the Time Trial , well done John , John and John. World Champs here we come. Gerard Genis managed a bronze medal in the time
trial , and John Moss a silver medal in his time trial . Young Jeanine Binneman won Silver in the under 14 girls road race and the time trial , .Results on the SACF website are incomplete with a lot of "unknowns" Patrick Gaertner gained a fine fifth place in the road race 35 39s , Michael Knott finished in the leading bunch in the 40-44s , Charl Le Roux was a few seconds off the pace and led the chasing bunch home , which included Gerard Genis , Mimmo was off the back ± 4 mins down , in the 45-49s , Charl Marais was also in the sprint bunch in the 50-54s where he gained a 13th place. Amanda Kropman gained a fourth and a seventh in the T/T and road race respectively , Janine Brown just missed out on a medal with fourth and Janet Moss getting seventh in the age categories. If we have missed out any names or results , it hasnt been done on purpose. Well done to all our members who went to Kimberley and took part and finished.

Club Meetings
Club members meet every first Monday of the month , the next one being the 3rd September , at the clubhouse , Green Point Stadium. The meetings are open to all members although historically , the meetings have been attended by committee members and those members who want to help run the club, no-one has been forced to serve on any committee , wave flags , organize races etc , we rely on members helping out from the goodness of their hearts . If any member does not agree with the way the club is being run come and say your say at the meetings or forever RIP. The launch of our sponsors and the merge with Cycle Lab is taking up a tremendous amount of time , so please be patient , just be at the launch on the 6th September.
P.S Members not on our e-mail list will get a phone call regarding the invite to The Launch , should you not get a call or an invite via e-mail contact John Simpson 5522970 , Graham Ward 9142011 during office hours
