Criterium Cup Sunday 22April - 08hrs00

This event is open to club members only , intending members are welcome but must be prepared to pay for subs , jerseys and be a potential club sponsor. There will be an entrance fee of R10 and the start venue is in Paarden Eiland Road (the one that runs parallel to the N1) Paarden Eiland . Trophies and prize money will be up for grabs.

Start of the road season.

Venue : Voor Paarderg circuit , to start just past the Prison.

We volunteered to kick-off the road season with our race "Ronde van Paardeberg" if the PPA tour can have an Italian name we’ll have a Flemish one . One might ask why so far out in the country ? the circuit is easy to marshal and relatively traffic free and is a good test of ones cycling ability , you can’t hide in this one. Just like the Criterium , we need your total support for this event . Jan Binneman is running the shop and promises that his "boeries" are going to be the best that side of the Boerewors curtain ,ice cold beers and cooldrinks will also be available , if you are not going to ride , come out and support your club.

Len du Plessis

The club extend its thanks to Mrs. Du Plessis who recently donated trophies that her late husband won during his cycling career , she also sends her regards via Uncle Harry to all the members especially the older ones.

WP Track champs

Clubs voted to hold the champs outdoors in Paarl which elicited howls of protests from various parties in the sport. SA’s are going to be held in Port Elizabeth and the Continental Champs in Krugersdorp , these venues were chosen democratically as was the venue for our champs. Hein Kroff got a lot of "I told you " calls on the Friday as the rain poured down. Politics aside , all events were contested on the Saturday and were completed by 20h00 even with a late start. Full results will appear on our website:

Willie Newman made his comeback from a bad fall just before Christmas and almost won everything he entered. Leon Jonker , Dawie du Toit and Hein Kroff - the Paarl sprinters had no answer to their worst nightmare - the Willie Newman finish. John Moss gained gold in the 3000m individual pursuit before having a fall in the 1500metre final and sustaining a cracked elbow. We also take this opportunity to wish Clive Schell a speedy recovery from heart surgery which he recently underwent.

We have recently updated our website with a brief History of the Club and also a list of members who have gained National Colours. Should we have left out anything or anyone important we haven’t done it intentionally , we would welcome any corrections to the two subjects . Suggestions to improve the site is also most welcome.

The next meeting is on Wednesday 02 May 18h00 to finalise the "Ronde van Paardeberg"
